eSIM Troubleshooting: Common Issues and Fixes

While eSIM technology is reliable, you may occasionally encounter issues during setup or use. This guide covers the most common eSIM problems and their solutions to get you connected quickly.

eSIM Activation Fails

If your eSIM will not activate or the QR code is not working:

  • Check your internet connection: eSIM activation requires a stable WiFi or cellular data connection to download the profile
  • Verify device compatibility: Ensure your device supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked
  • QR code issues: Make sure you are scanning the code in adequate lighting without screen glare. Try zooming in if the code is small
  • One-time use: Most QR codes can only be scanned once. If you accidentally cancelled during setup, contact your provider for a new code
  • Software update: Update your device to the latest operating system version

No Signal or Service

If your eSIM is installed but showing no signal:

  • Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to force a network reconnection
  • Restart your device completely
  • Check that the eSIM line is enabled in your device settings
  • Verify that data roaming is enabled if you are in a different country
  • Manually select a network operator instead of using automatic selection
  • Ensure the eSIM plan is active and has not expired

Slow Data or No Data

If your eSIM connects but data is slow or unavailable:

  • Check that the eSIM is set as your default data line in dual SIM settings
  • Verify your data plan has remaining balance or data allowance
  • Reset network settings (note: this removes saved WiFi passwords)
  • Check APN settings with your eSIM provider
  • Move to an area with better signal coverage

Cannot Delete eSIM Profile

To remove an eSIM profile from your device:

  • Go to Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Data
  • Select the eSIM plan you want to remove
  • Tap Remove eSIM or Delete Plan
  • Confirm the removal when prompted

Remember that deleting an eSIM profile is permanent. Some providers allow you to reinstall the same plan, while others require purchasing a new one.

If you continue experiencing issues, contact your eSIM provider's support team. PrivateSims offers 24/7 support to help resolve any connectivity problems quickly.
